Random chats are the best…. That’s one of the hard things about the pandemic/zoom

For context, when Scott was putting together, he referred to us as the “Final Five”, which set me off on a whole other thread… Google it…

It’s been far too long since we’ve had a random chat Simon!

Indeed, Rob, we are definitely due a catchup….

Great tip Garth - make sure you make time for you in your day. Blocking your calendar for lunch is a key one for me. Even if I don't use it, it's there and keeps that time meeting free

Thanks All, good points in everyone's comments, really like the do one thing point from Garth and the putting time in the calendar for me! Thanks all

Highly recommend Zoom Free Fridays which seems to be starting to take a pace in other companies. This is something I know a few teams within VMW are actively trying to do in order to lessen Zoom fatigue and help with mental health

Another golden nugget, have a strategy for me, same as an exercise plan. Thanks Simon!
Adam Fowler

Downside to this is we now have to fit 5 days worth of zooms into 4 days. Swings and roundabouts. Much better to consider if your internal meetings are, in fact, required and minimise them if they do not add any value. (E.g. an excuse for managers to appear they are doing their job).
Adam Fowler
42:43
Not that anyone in VMware would be guilty of such behaviour of course. Heaven forbid :D

Stronger minds through AXA is excellent and can provide specialist therapy

FYI there's a neurodiversity-allies channel to talk about Autism, ADHD, et al if you want advice from actually autistic employees like myself

You are doing a great job in normalizing the topic and looking at the many different facets. Discussing very personal experience and feelings on a Zoom call is probably not easy, thank you for doing that here!
Adam Fowler
47:28
No problem Tom! Reach out if you need any advice either via there or directly. Happy to help.

(I'm a cadet forces instructor too, so know about the 'teacher' side of Autism too)

@Garth - Motorbikes is my head fix as well, it really does work...

We also have 'Re-Think' benefits available to help support families with learning, behaviour challenges - this is free to use and you can find more information on the VMware Benefits microsite under 'Work/Life'

Good for you Anthony!

I would strongly discourage people from using rethink for Autistic children. See neurodiversity channels for details.

Ive seen a number of articles like this over the past few weeks - some good tips about switching off preview and ‘muppet mode’ as I call it to make zoom a a more natural experience… https://www.amenclinics.com/blog/6-strategies-to-cope-with-mirror-anxiety-and-zoom-fatigue/
Izzy Barry

Thank you all for being so exceptionally honest. This has been a wonderful session.
Rob Hayden

“Mirror Anxiety” - it’s probably in that article, but I always switch off Self View on Zoom.

Mental Health and invisible disabilities are very much misunderstood and not catered for. We're getting there, but it's going to take time. Simplest approach: Always Be Kind

This was a phenomenal session, thanks to all the panelists for the honesty and open discussion. The reinforcement is needed across VMware, we need to self care and look after each other. Great work :)
